Mural-sort of

Here's another short post. Sorry. My room feels all empty and junk all the time, so I'm starting what I think will be a streak of murals in my room. Unfortunately there's not enough paint so I haven't started painting. Here's the mural i made around my mirror.

I changed a lot of the qualities and stuff in iphoto so you can see it, so i look a little weird in the mirror.














Not a bad start though, right?

John Lennon and another mime.

Ok. So I have a thing for mimes. It's old news. But this is new:

   

Well who doesn't love a pouty mime smoking a cigarette anyways?

Ok, here's something that you should watch. It's an interview with john lennon that a 14-year-old got by sneaking into his hotel room in 1969. But the video itself is an artwork submitted to a youtube-guggenheim video art competition. It's super trippy.

Sorry. I guess I forgot for a few weeks. I'm posting again, that's all that matters.

You can create art anywhere. Everything can be a canvas.

This is old, but it expresses that point. I drew this on a suede cushion. You may or may not be able to see it very well, but it's a funky looking person with a goatee/mustache and a bowler hat. I'm a kool kat, I know.

Chocolate mousse: My life. So good. Learning how to make it was a death sentence from the start. Now that I can make this all the time, It's slowly fattening me up with all it's chocolatey goodness. It's worth it though.

My room wasn't lively enough. So, I found some directions online for how to hollow out a lightbulb. I stuffed it with dirt and planted a basil plant in it. And now I'm not the only living thing in my room.

Strange? yes. Awesome? completely.

Hopefully I won't forget to post for another 3-week period.

Very Creepy Mime Mask

Blame boredom. I made a mime mask this week. It creeps me out and I think it may come alive and kill me in my sleep.
I started with a basic mould for a face mask. I added clay to certain parts where I wanted the features to be more prominent; the nose and the cheeks. Then I paper mached it over a layer of plastic rap. After putting a layer of vinyl spackle over the paper mache, it looked like this:

Not too shabby. Still needed to paint the makeup features of a mime. Ended up looking like this after a short painting session:

So, creepiness aside, it was a pretty successful boredom project. Now on to paper mache leg.

Orchids

    I hate to only post one drawing, but sadly it's all I had to show for my whole weekend. Beach days by the bonfire take a surprising amount of energy out of you.

    I was thinking of simple things that I'd want to put into a mural on one of the walls in my room, and I wondered if Orchids would be something cool to look at. Unfortunately I'd never really drawn them before, but not to worry, there's always a time to start.

    After browsing google images for inspiration, I picked one picture to serve as the anatomy example for all the key components. Afterwards, I just drew keeping those components in mind. Here's what I ended up with.

    The image quality is pretty bad. It's certainly not a Georgia O'keefe, but I think that for a first swing it's not too shabby.

Holding Hands

I only have one drawing for today, didn't have any old ones that I wanted to put up right now.

Hands are pretty hard to draw, it's hard to get the proportions and perfect basic shapes that make it recognizeable as a hand. I decided to draw holding hands to experiment with two hands and how to proportion both hands without being able to see some parts of either. Here's what I drew (based on a picture I found on google.)

I'm probably going to add to this post in the future, but right now this is a post with one lonely picture. More to come later!

Some old ones, and one new one

The first three are sketches I did in San Francisco in july. When your parents are out shopping, and all your brother wants to do is watch nfl network and throw shit at you, you have a lot of time to do sketches out of what you see from the massive window in your hotel room.

The upside was that it had a great view.

This is my sad attempt at a fully-clothed figure drawing based on a statuette thingey in my room, it's supposed to be lady justice i think, I didn't have time for the head, and changed some of the positioning, and added a scale in her hand.

First Post

So...welcome to my blog. This blog is dedicated to art, so if that doesn't sound interesting to you then this probably isn't the blog for you. With that said, here goes with my first post.

I love to draw. I live, breathe, go through school, with drawings in my head or on the paper in front of me. I think that images are alive in a way, and when you create an image, you're creating life. Here are some of my summer drawings. I drew way more, but most of them are on my mac so I'll post them later.

This one was probably one of the first from this summer. It's a semi-realist drawing of an African tribesman, middle aged. some of the features were stressed to amplify african facial features, as I hadn't drawn many black people. (sorry guys)

You can never have too many black guys. This one was a really rough memory sketch of a black guy that I'd seen near chinatown from the car. Proportions are a bitch without a subject in front of you.
